Arlington, WA - May 10, 2010 - With a strong grassroots campaign underway and a national wind at his back, John Koster has gained a remarkable 17 percentage points on his opponent, the incumbent Rick Larsen, in the battle for who will represent Washington's 2nd Congressional District next year in Washington, D.C.
Koster, who announced his candidacy in mid-January of 2010, cited a Moore Information poll (Dec. 16,17) showing Larsen with a commanding 48% - 24% lead (24% undecided) over Koster. The latest Moore poll (April 20,21), however, shows Koster gaining ground rapidly, narrowing the gap to 44% - 37% (12% undecided) in a head to head matchup.
Growing discontent with the direction of the country (37% say U.S. on right track, 55% say wrong track) regarding the economy, jobs, government spending, and taxes, appear to be the major factors in Larsen's drop and Koster's gain.

Nearly Two-Thirds of Americans Deem Trillion-Dollar Stimulus a Failure, Continue to Ask: 'Where Are the Jobs?'
April 29, 2010
Washington- While the Democrats scramble to divert attention away from the economy by focusing on healthcare and financial regulatory reform, Washington families haven't forgotten about Rick Larsen and his party's trillion-dollar stimulus failure. After a year of spending too much, taxing too much, and borrowing too much, Americans are fed up with the Democrats' economic policies. And in an already turbulent political climate, a new survey verifying that nearly two-thirds of Americans are at odds with the stimulus will not bode well for politically imperiled Democrats like Larsen. Despite countless attempts by Larsen and his party bosses to divert attention from their disastrous economic policies, there is nothing they can do to salvage the irreparable damage that they have done.
"Nearly two-thirds of Americans do not believe the $787 billion stimulus package the president passed last year has helped create jobs, according to a new Pew Research Poll.
"Sixty-two percent of those polled said the stimulus hasn't contributed to job creation...
"Forty-nine percent said TARP did not prevent a more severe crisis compared to 42 percent who said it did." (Andy Barr, "Poll: Stimulus didn't help," Politico, 4/29/2010)

Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has officially announced John Koster (WA-02) as an 'On the Radar' candidate, an important first step in its Young Guns program. Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide.
Koster is running in Washington's Second Congressional District, a seat that is currently held by Democrat incumbent Rick Larsen, an out-of-touch career politician who is more concerned with toeing his party line than serving the constituents he was elected to represent.

ARLINGTON, WA - Snohomish County Council member John Koster, the top Republican challenger to Democrat Rep. Rick Larsen, announced a successful first fundraising quarter today. After officially entering the race in January, Koster has raised over $168,000 from nearly 1,700 donors and finished the quarter with about $100,000 cash on hand.
"The momentum and support we've felt across the 2nd Congressional District is proof positive that people are anxious for a change in leadership in Washington, D.C.," said Koster. "Rick Larsen has clearly forgotten that he's supposed to represent the folks back home rather than his party leaders. During these times of unprecedented spending, record debt, and massive deficits, we need a leader who understands that taxpayer money is to be protected by Congress, not wasted on partisan spending sprees. Our strong fundraising - combined with a grassroots effort that has already spread throughout the district - has put us in excellent shape for November. We'll be working hard nonstop until Election Day to let voters know that there's only one clear choice for responsible, conservative leadership for Northwest Washington."
