News Press Releases Did "Well-Connected" Political Contributors Get Special Treatment on DelBene's Watch at WSDOR?

Everett, WA - October 15, 2012 - A whistleblower (29 year WSDOR employee Dennis Redmon) has filed a formal complaint that points a finger at former director Suzan DelBene and other Washington State Department of Revenue (WSDOR) bureaucrats "for giving special treatment to well-connected taxpayers who can afford to pay."

Washington State Wire's lead writer and editor Erik Smith broke the story (click here to read full article) on October 8 regarding the complaint filed with the State Auditor alleging that "as much as $35 million in taxes have been excused for taxpayers with [political] pull..."; and that a well-connected political contributor known for large political contributions to Governor Gregoire and the Democratic Party among others avoided paying over $2 million in use tax & penalties on a jet aircraft dating back to 2007.

"If the allegations are true, this is a huge scandal and the height of hypocrisy" said John Koster. "Here we have the former director of the WSDOR running for congress in the middle of this mess whose latest campaign ad says she will make sure that "millionaires pay their fair share."

Koster, who is opposing DelBene in Washington State's 1st Congressional District, said "with the election just a few weeks off, WSDOR should expedite the release of all information relevant to this matter. We are living in an era when budget shortfalls are the worst in Washington State since the great depression. The public has a right to know if WSDOR director Suzan DelBene was knowingly giving special favors and exemptions to political friends; if not, did this situation come about due to incompetence, mismanagement and/or negligence on her part?"

"Every congressional candidate's public service record should be closely examined as part of the standard vetting process and every candidate should be held accountable for their performance."
